Coromandel coast lost 2.4 km of beach since 2023 — NCSCM internal survey
கோரமண்டல் கடற்கரை 2023 முதல் 2.4 கி.மீ. அரிக்கப்பட்டது
A March 2026 internal survey by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (Anna University) mapped 14 erosion hotspots along the Coromandel coast between Pulicat Lake and Point Calimere. Cumulative beach loss since 2023 is 2.4 km of shoreline; the worst-affected single stretch — between Pazhayar and Tharangambadi — lost 380 m in just 14 months.
The report was uploaded to NCSCM's file portal in early March without a press release; NCSCM's public-facing site links a different (2024) erosion atlas. TN-Info's data desk discovered the new file in the FTP archive while pulling baseline data and confirmed it via RTI #2914 (Coastal Geomatics Division).
The findings have not been raised in either house of the Assembly, and the State Coastal Zone Management Authority's last published minutes (Jan 2026) do not reference the survey. We have asked NCSCM for the methodology document; this article will be updated when received.
Report uploaded to NCSCM portal in March; no press release issued. Found via the FTP archive.
